Long Term Support

Your journey doesn’t end after surgery — it’s just the beginning.

At Aurora Bariatrics, we understand that long-term weight loss success requires more than just surgery. It takes sustained support, personalised care, and the right tools to help you stay on track. That’s why we walk beside you every step of the way — not just for weeks or months, but for life.

Why Long-Term Support Matters

Bariatric surgery changes how your body digests food and regulates hunger — but long-term results come from maintaining new habits, managing nutrition, and monitoring your health over time. Without the right aftercare, it’s possible to experience weight regain or nutritional deficiencies.

That’s where we come in. Our long-term care program helps you:

  • Maintain weight loss
  • Monitor nutritional health
  • Adjust medications
  • Stay motivated and empowered

What Long-Term Support Looks Like at Aurora

We believe in tailored, patient-centred care. Your aftercare plan is built around your individual goals, lifestyle, and health needs.

Our support includes:

  • Follow ups for 12 months post op: Ongoing check-ins with your surgeon, referring physician, and team to review your weight, health, blood work, and medication needs.
  • Nutrition Reviews: Regular sessions with your dietitian to review portion sizes, food tolerances, multivitamin use, and eating behaviours.
  • Supplement Guidance: Support with lifelong multivitamin use, fibre supplementation, hydration, and bowel health.
  • Emotional Support: Access to counselling or behavioural therapy to address mindset, emotional eating, or motivation.
  • Lifestyle Coaching: Guidance on exercise progression, work-life balance, and integrating new healthy habits.

Life After Surgery: What to Know

  • Diet: Your diet progresses in stages — liquids (0–2 weeks), purée (2–4 weeks), soft foods (4–6 weeks), and a normal diet from six weeks onward. Protein and fluids remain key.
  • Exercise: Walking is encouraged from day one. Wait four weeks before returning to weightlifting, Pilates, or core work. Beach swimming is okay from two weeks; pools from four.
  • Bowel Health: You may need lactulose or Movicol early on. Long-term, use a daily fibre supplement to support digestion and help prevent weight regain.
  • Vitamins: You’ll need to take a daily multivitamin for life to avoid deficiencies.
  • Blood Tests: Required at 6 months, 12 months, then annually.
  • CPAP and Medications: Many patients reduce or stop CPAP use, blood pressure tablets, or diabetes medication — always review with your GP and surgeon.

Program Costs

The Aurora Aftercare Program is included as part of your Bariatric Management Fee and covers:

  • Surgical consultations for 2 years post-op
  • Hospital and surgical packs (including the Aurora Welcome Box)
  • Telehealth or in-person follow-ups

Additional services (e.g., dietetics, psychology, and GP reviews) have their own fee structures. Please contact individual providers for quotes.
